Development: The Umbrella Academy started as a film project optioned by Universal Studios with Mark Bomback writing the screenplay, later replaced by Rawson Marshall Thurber. However, the project transitioned to a television series in 2015, produced by Universal Cable Productions. Netflix officially greenlit the live-action adaptation in 2017, with Steve Blackman as the showrunner and Jeremy Slater writing the pilot. The first season premiered on February 15, 2019.

Season 1: Released on February 15, 2019.
Season 2: Announced on April 2, 2019, and released on July 31, 2020.
Season 3: Renewed on November 10, 2020, and released on June 22, 2022, with a TV-MA rating.

Writing
